Aluminum specialist Constellium and Nikon subsidiary Morf3D are joining forces to elevate the quality of aluminum alloy involved in additive manufacturing. Their joint endeavor intends to approve the utilization of Constellium’s Aheadd CP1 metal powder within the SLM500 AM machines provided by Nikon SLM Solutions. This high-performing powder, engineered for large-format AM, suggests optimal particle size distribution, alongside reduced operational costs and enhanced printing productivity.

The collaborative effort is specifically concentrated on manufacturing lightweight, high-performance components such as heat exchangers, leveraging the distinctive properties of the powder. It further serves as a response to the surging demand for large-format AM, targeting to introduce changes within the industry through increased design flexibility and aluminum alloy materials’ improved properties.

Dr. Behrang Poorganji, Morf3D’s Chief Technology Officer, has pointed out the significance of their partnership with Constellium in advancing the development and qualification stage of top-tier aluminum alloy for Additive Manufacturing, specifically through the SLM 500 platform.

“Together, we are pioneering the development and qualification of CP1 aluminum alloy to unlock new potential for lightweight, high-performance components such as heat exchangers produced by AM innovations.”

The partnership is a strategic move to meet market demands and drive advancements in aluminum’s use in additive manufacturing. It is expected to contribute to more efficient and cost-effective production processes, leveraging the strengths of both companies.
