Hammer Pro 40, a lithography-based metal 3D printer for production, is launched by Incus GmbH.

In the world of 3D printing, Incus GmbH has just launched its latest innovation – the Hammer Pro40 Lithography-based Metal Manufacturing (LMM) 3D printer. This cutting-edge machine is designed for ‘mass manufacturing’ applications, taking 3D printing technology beyond the confines of the research and development lab and onto the factory floor.

One of the standout features of the Hammer Pro40 is its dual scrolling projectors, a significant upgrade from the single stationary projector used in its predecessor, the Hammer Lab35. This advancement allows for greater precision and efficiency in the printing process. Additionally, the Hammer Pro40 boasts an impressive build volume of 2x 200 x 76.8 x 150mm, making it six times larger than its predecessor. It also has a high potential throughput of 700cm³/hour, which is seven times that of the Hammer Lab35.

But the improvements don’t stop there. The Hammer Pro40 also offers excellent resolution with a pixel pitch of 40µm in X/Y and a slice thickness ranging from 10-100µm. Not only that, but the printing cost per cm³ is said to be four times lower than the Hammer Lab35, making it a more cost-effective option for mass manufacturing.

Dr. Gerald Mitteramskogler, CEO of Incus, is particularly excited about the scalability of the Hammer Pro40. He states, “The biggest shortcoming that people would see for us was scalability. It’s assumed binder jetting can go super fast, super big, super efficient, [but our process cannot]. With this machine, we’re going to change that perception. Upscaling lithography is possible.”

The Hammer Pro40 also brings additional benefits to the table. It offers the ability to automate the handling of green parts, thanks to the strength of the components before sintering. Additionally, its post-sinter surface roughness of 2µm eliminates the need for polishing and sandblasting, streamlining the post-processing stage.

Designed to operate multiple jobs without operator intervention and with a feedstock supply that can last up to three days of continuous printing, the Hammer Pro40 is the ideal solution for users looking to transition from the research lab to full-scale production.

Incus has identified a wide range of potential applications for the Hammer Pro40, including the manufacturing of intricate specialty parts in the dental, medical, automotive, micro robotics, and jewelry markets. The versatility of this printer opens up endless possibilities, from medical devices and dental brackets to customized automotive knobs and personalized jewelry.
