HP Announces Major Partnerships for Metal Jet S100 Platform at Formnext 2023

In a groundbreaking move that is set to revolutionize the additive manufacturing (AM) industry, HP has announced several major partnerships surrounding its Metal Jet S100 platform, just in time for Formnext 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany. As a pioneer in metal binder jetting (MBJ) AM, HP is at the forefront of driving innovation and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this field.

One of the notable partnerships is with GKN Aerospace, a leading AM innovator and longstanding HP partner. This collaboration aims to qualify a range of new metal powders, including ten different grades of steel such as M2 tool steel. By working together, HP and GKN Aerospace are paving the way for the introduction of new, advanced materials into the AM market.

Another exciting collaboration is with Sandvik, another existing partner of HP. This partnership will enable Metal Jet customers to access Sandvik superalloys and 316L, the low-carbon version of 316 stainless steel. By expanding the range of available materials, HP is providing its customers with more options and flexibility to meet their specific needs and requirements.

In addition to strengthening ties with existing partners, HP has also formed collaborations with two new partners. Elnik and its sister business DSH Technologies are leaders in debind and sintering processes. This strategic partnership will equip customers using HP’s S100 Metal Jet Solution with advanced sintering capabilities, opening up new possibilities for 3D printing in various industries.

Furthermore, HP has partnered with Indo-MIM, the world’s largest supplier of powders for metal injection molding (MIM) and an emerging player in the metal AM space. This collaboration signals HP’s commitment to expanding its reach and exploring new applications for its MBJ platform.

Ramon Pastor, global head of 3D Metals at HP, expressed his enthusiasm about these partnerships, stating, “This collaboration equips customers using HP’s commercial S100 Metal Jet Solution with advanced sintering capabilities, opening up new horizons in 3D printing for industries worldwide.” Stefan Joens, president of Elnik Systems, also shared his excitement, saying, “Working together with the HP team has been amazing. The mutual interest to see the Metal 3D printing technology advance through team-effort discussion, innovation, and desire is what will help this manufacturing technology become a fully capable processing method of the future.”

Attendees of Formnext 2023 will have the opportunity to learn more about HP’s new metals partnerships and explore other aspects of the company’s 3D printing portfolio at booth D41 in Hall 12.1. This event serves as a platform for HP to showcase its latest innovations and interact with industry professionals.

The expansion of metal powders available for the S100, along with HP’s increased focus on post-processing, indicates a turning point in the industry. HP has successfully completed the first year of commercializing the S100 and is now accelerating its efforts towards production-level scale. Ramon Pastor anticipated this push in an interview earlier this year, stating, “In observing what this technology can help companies achieve, industry leaders like HP are developing add-on automation services that further improve [AM] scalability and output as operations along the entire production line become increasingly automated…”
