The Formnext Start-Up Challenge is specifically designed for 3D printing firms that have been in operation for less than five years. The judging panel, which consists of distinguished individuals from industry, science, media, and investment sectors, plays a crucial role in evaluating the participants and their ideas.

The previous year’s winners of the challenge included companies like Alpha Powders, Photosynthetic, Rivelin Robotics, SphereCube, and Lattice Medical. These companies were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the 3D printing industry.

Now let’s introduce the winners of the 2023 start-up challenge:

1. Endless Industries: This Berlin-based start-up aims to disrupt the 3D printing sector with its unique approach to continuous carbon fiber printing. Instead of developing its own 3D printer, the company focuses on its proprietary material, software, and patented nozzle that enables simultaneous carbon fiber and plastic processing. By addressing the issue of different plastics expanding at distinct rates when exposed to heat, Dragon ensures more reliable and scalable 3D printing.

3. Odapt: A Spanish start-up, Odapt has introduced a 3D printed silicone baseplate to enhance the usability and reduce waste associated with stoma bags. The company states that globally, 15 million people rely on stoma bags due to their inability to empty their bowels independently. The 3D printed silicone baseplate prevents leaks and offers adaptability to various stoma shapes and available pouches. This innovation aims to address the issue of stool or urine leakage that frequently occurs due to the lack of adaptability in current pouch designs.

4. Progresja New Materials: This Polish start-up specializes in recycling titanium across Europe. While additive titanium powder processors are present in the EU, the raw material typically originates from countries like China or Russia. Progresja New Materials aims to significantly improve the low end-of-life titanium recycling rate in the EU. Their process involves cleaning, thermochemical treatment, mechanical processing, and atomization of scrap titanium, resulting in powder suitable for 3D printing. The company plans to establish a network of titanium recycling centers near aerospace industry hubs in the EU.

5. Vitro3D: A US-based start-up, Vitro3D has introduced high-speed volumetric 3D printing technology. This innovation allows for faster and more efficient 3D printing by increasing the speed and precision of the printing process. With their proprietary technology, Vitro3D aims to revolutionize the 3D printing industry and enable the production of complex structures with high accuracy and speed.
